Morrisonn back with the Capitals for one year

Defenseman Shaone Morrisonn was set to arbitration today, and he accepted a one year, 1.975 million dollar contract.

Last season, the Vancouver native played 76 games, notching a goal and scoring a total of 10 points. He had a +-4 rating, while having the 3rd highest ice-time among Washington's defensemen.

Habs_Marc's take: Very good signing for the Capitals, Morrisonn is a good, young and effective defenseman. He needs to work on his offensive production, but he is doing a great work back in his own end, he may become one of the best shutdown defenseman in the league. Looking at the contracts some UFA signed this year, Shaone comes to a pretty cheap price.

Leclaire Update And York Climbing Depth Chart

This is an e-mail I got from my Columbus Source:

I don't know who you've talked to other than myself regarding the Blue Jackets, but Pascal Leclaire has NOT re-signed yet. Trust me on this one.

The Blue Jackets gave Leclaire's agent another counter-offer today, and Leclaire will have until Tuesday to accept the offer or counter back. I would say he will counter back.

They're close, but it's not done yet.

And to anyone doubting the Mike York signing in Columbus, he just may turn some heads. Whenever a guy is buried on the depth chart as he is, there's a little extra incentive going into camp.

2009 Winter Classic Logo Released

So what does everyone think? I like the classic vintage look, nice job.

Lehoux now a Habs

Center Yanick Lehoux signed a two-way deal with the Montreal Canadiens on friday. The Montreal native, played 10 games in the NHL, scoring 2 goals and adding 2 assists. He spent the 05-06 and the 06-07 season with the Phoenix Coyotes. But he signed a one year contract with the Khimik-Mytischi of the Russian Super-Liga last year.

Habs_Marc's take: Decent signing from Gainey, bringing in a hometown guy, who still need to prove that he can play in the NHL, but he can be a good addition for the Bulldogs. Lehoux will likely play in Hamilton next season, but he will battle for a roster spot at the training camp. Expect him to play as a 3rd/4th liner if he cracks the roster or if he is called up.
