McCabe to Isles imminent? Kings,Pens Talking About Sydor?

According to Pittsburgh's Insider DePaoli, the Islanders would send Freddy Meyer and a 4th rounder in exchange for Bryan McCabe.

McCabe to the Islanders makes sense as his wife Roberta, is a native of Long Island. McCabe started his career as an Islander in 1995-96 as he was drafted by them in 1993.

Last season, McCabe recorded 23 points in 54 games as he battled injuries throughout the season.

Also, the Penguins would send veteran Darryl Sydor to the LA Kings for a prospect or a late round pick. Vyacheslav Voinov has been mentioned in recent discussions.

Sydor began his career with the Kings in 1991-92 after being drafted by them 7th overall in 1990.

Last year, Sydor played 74 games with the Penguins, notching 13 points. He won the Cup with Dallas and Tampa Bay.

Meyer, who cares... yet another D?. I'm cool with the Islanders 4th round pick though!

Thats next to nothing for McCabe. I guess the Leafs shouldn't be expecting much.

Pure salary dump. Oh well. Still waiting for that "home run".

A deal for Sydor is not imminent.

Freddy Meyers was picked up off waivers, if this is the trade please keep Mccabe. That is complete stupidity.

I can see Kings giving up a late pick or a b-type prospec (Bagnall, Piskula, etc.). No way do they give up Voinov though.

Its funny how you reported this after Eklund did.

Would rather a forward for McCabe. Tambellini, Hunter, or best case scenario, Blake Comeau. Probably wishful thinking for one of those 3 though.

The Islanders are not even in Eklund's possible trade destinations... No link with his post man. Eklund's quote: Well that is what I don't know yet, but rumours have circulated that Ottawa, Montreal, Tampa, Florida, Pittsburgh and Atlanta are possible destinations...
Read before you post.

Tambellini, Hunter or Comeau for McCabe? LOL. Stay in school kid.

Hunter is a possibility man, he's not that good, and McCabe is not as bad as people say, it's only because he's a Leaf that people say he's bad...he would help what ever team he went too, I wouldn't mind him staying in Toronto if we weren't attempting the rebuilding stage, or suppose to be anyway

wow, that would be a weak, weak trade for McCabe. But bottom line is we need change and getting rid of McCabe is a huge step in that direction- as is not re-signing Sundin. I would do that trade, in part for the salary dump but also for the sake of change.

If that's the best they can get for Mccabe they might as well keep him till deadline. I think that Cliff screwed up opening his trap.

deadline?.. if he waives his NTC now, trade him now... you've already made him feel unwelcome.

Getting the NMC off the books would be great. Take some salary we can dump in the minors or the waivers, make room for Fletch's homerun?

Either way, this won't happen until September

Besides... i'd love to see Stralman and the other young'uns to get a boost in ice time.

I dunno people bitch if he would say, people will bitch if he goes for a bag or pucks....

I think it is good move, we don't need McCabe, let Coliacovo/Finger and others step in. I rather keep Kubina around if I have to chose between the two. However I would trade both of them, so our kids can play more....

good job for reporting this... I always enjoy your blogs ;-) Keep up good work, cheers Martin from Ottawa....

Freddy Meyer was not picked up off waivers. They got him in the Zhitnik trade.
