McCabe and Steen for Bouwmeester?

Word is tonight that there is indeed a deal in the works that would see D Bryan McCabe and F Alex Steen go to Florida for D Jay Bouwmeester.

And for once the trade isn't being held up by Bryan its being held up by Fletcher. Apparently like Ferguson before him he is reluctant to give up Steen in the deal. Sources are saying that McCabe does not have a problem and would indeed consider playing in Florida. Fletcher is apparently wanting to give McCabe and a 2nd rounder instead.

But unfortunately for Fletcher GM Martin holds the cards especially if McCabe has agreed to waive to go to Florida. Martin can basically say Steen or no deal which I think would be a mistake for the Leafs. Schenn and Bouwmeester would be one of the most powerful tandems in the NHL.

Like I've said before Fletcher if this is indeed true needs to pull off this deal as there has been reportedly little interest in the 5.75 mill dollar D man.

Lets hope this doesn't turn into another Chris Pronger saga and the Leafs don't pass up another oppurtunity to obtain another franchise Dman.

So once again the reported deal is D Bryan McCabe and F Alex Steen for D Jay Bouwmeester.

i thought the leafs didn't have a 2nd rounder in 09 or 10?

I'm checking on that I don't believe they do. So it could be a conditional pick of some kind.

If i was Fletcher, i'd make the deal, got alot in the stables now for forwards and we need to dump McCabe Now so we can pick up another centre later on or even right now, Steen sorry, but he's just a casualty of war.

Bring the Bo to TO......our D would be sick.

This deal sounds more than fair to me considering Bouwmeester is going to be a UFA in '09.

Maybe someone should remind Fletcher that Bouwmeester scored just as many goals as Steen did last season. And why is it so difficult for Fletcher to make a deal where he doesn't give away a draft pick?

That pick would defnitely have to be a first and no matter I don't see Florida trading with Toronto after whole Kilger fiasco, and seeing as Joe Nieuwendyk and JM aren't exactly on the best of terms right now.

LOL yes.. Florida is going to trade J BO for the overpriced crap defenceman McCabe and a player how after 3 years hasn't got more then 30 points.

Mind you.. we are talking Florida here.. can't trade worth a shit.

Wow Steen had an 18 goal 45 point season in his rookie year so , that shows how little you know about hockey. Also Steen had 42 points last year so yeah i think that's more than 30. Montreal school system's really that bad.

Personally... I think that with the introduction of Hagman, Mayers, etc this off-season, a player like Ponikarovsky - who should have more trade value than Steen due to size and production - is immediatly rendered overkill. Why not offer Poni instead of Steen and get this deal done. We'ld still need to move 1 or 2 defencemen, so still remains a log jam at defence. All-in-all, a defence of:
Kaberle - JBo
Finger - Kubina/Cola
Stralman - Frogren
Kronvall

is a pretty stellar d-core, still leaves one of kubina/cola and white as trade bait to recoop some pics. Lets get er' done!!!

My bad 2 comments up.. I was reading the assists column on the tsn.ca page. So the highest he's got was 18 goals and 45 points in his rookie season and hasn't matched it again. Nevermind ZERO playoff experience.

Regardless, the Leafs would make out like bandits if this went through.
