Maple Leafs Choose GM and Fletcher wants Bouwmeester.

I just want to put this out that the Maple Leafs may have found their man, and we didn't even notice. According to sources close to the team Joe Nieuwendyk will become the Toronto Maple Leafs general manager after this season.

It is believed by many that Cliff Fletcher will groom Joe into the role and Nieuwendyk will take over after this year. While I dislike the idea of another rookie GM, at least they have a timetable to train the person who they feel is best for the job. Joe Nieuwendyk comes to Toronto with an impressive resume which includes a Stanley Cup and a very good knowledge of the sport. While this is unconfirmed, many including the likes of Darren Dreger, Bob McKenzie, Nik Kypreos, and Howard Berger have all said they feel that Joe will take the role when Fletchers contract expires and that he will be something the Leafs have needed for a long time someone with hockey sense.

Moving on now I know this has been said 1,000,000 times but word on the street is the deal that was said to be happening is getting bigger! Now by no means does this mean it will happen but I truly feel that this could get Bouwmeester into Toronto if Fletcher wants him bad enough and word out tonight is that he does.

The rumored deal that is reportedly being thrown around is this:

To Toronto: D Jay Bouwmeester, F Richard Zednik

To Florida: D Bryan McCabe, D Ian White, F Alexei Ponikarovsky

I'M GOING TO PUT EMPHASIS ON THIS! "THIS IS A RUMOR NOT FACT"

So please take it as such.

(The Sources Take: Now me personally, I like the trade. It does at first seem a little steep but I think it's better than giving up a 1st, especially if the return is Bouwmeester. With the Nieuwendyk situation I like it better than bringing on Brian Burke who has a big mouth and really needs to settle that whole thing with Lowe down.)

Although I agree with you and do think it is steep, I would do it a heartbeat. Not too thrilled about taking Zednik off their hands though, but the three leafs going to florida are all very expendable assets. I'd part with all three. Turn Zednik to Booth and it is a steal. Get er done joe... I mean cliff.

Are u crazy how is this steep at all for the Leafs , there is no way the Leafs land Bouwmeester without giving up one of Steen, Tlusty, Antropov and mabye including a first round draft pick. This is pure fantasy there is no way Florida is that dumb. Expect Mccabe , Poni and a first then mabye Florida would be interested. MABYE

there other teams in the nhl besides the leafs. The Leafs are gonna suck this year, so who gives a damn about rumors that will ever happen. Hey Source stop pulling trades out of your ass. Your nothing but a Leafs fan hoping and praying they get Bowmeester when the truth is they won't because all their players suck.

Do people know what "RUMOR" actually means?

Bouwmeester has absolutely no trade value right now as he wants out of Florida. That's why the Leafs could make a trade of this kind for him. Lets not forget that Martin is not the most intelligent GM here and traded away Jokinnen when he could have gotten so much more.

I don't pull things from my ass "Eklund" I know its you because you have done this on other websites as well and we have the proof (Thanks very much to my good friend Peklund for the info by the way)

As for Berger he stated that very thing on thefan590 a few weeks before July 1 of this year.

"bouwmeester has absolutely no trade valus right now".....because he wants out of florida???....every time you say something you sound dumber than the last thing you said.

response to above comments.....if you have proof.....then i've lost respect for him.....its bad when "credible" people stup so low.

I hope TO get Bouwmeester and that Smokin' Joe is the new GM.....me and a friend figured that out a couple weeks ago.....drinking and others get the brain working

Despite wanting to leave Florida and being on a one year deal Bouwmeester has a ton of trade value right now. There are a number of teams that would love to acquire a D-Man of his quality that can skate and move the puck as well as he can. His value will only increase as time goes by and contending teams try to plug holes.

This is not nearly enough to pry him out of Florida.

I have to agree with the second comment - this is not steep AT ALL for the Leafs. Seriously, the Leafs package as reported consists of a player who's being run out of town, a defenseman who won't be able to crack the Leafs top-6 and a 2nd line winger. That's it for a #2 defenseman who's 24 years old?

If Fletcher pulls off that deal he should be executive of the year (OK, I don't think that that award exists in the NHL, but you know what I mean).

Regardless of whoever said what, I don't believe that JBo is going anywhere until January 1st. I think that Martin is trying to bolster the team in an attempt to convince JBo to stay.

Also, speaking of Martin, I don't particularly like the guy but why is it that everyone thinks he's so dumb? Do people really think that he turned down better offers for Jokinen? I'm not privy to that information, maybe he did. But let's keep in mind that Jokinen, at the age of 30, has had two very good seasons but is nowhere near a point-per-game player over his career (0.637 ppg). And, guess what, his numbers are probably going to go down not up so I don't know what people would have expected in return. And before someone points to the Luongo deal - that was Keenan. Also, for the sake of argument, if Martin did have to gift wrap JBo to someone, does anyone really believe that it would be to the Leafs? If you do, see the Ottawa Senators playoff success against the Leafs and Chad Kilger.

Chad Kilger?

The Source said...

Hey man I want people to know that I don't think it would be enough to get JBo I give what I hear remember I think a 1st rounder would need to be involved.

SensChirp said...

Did you not say in your take you thought it was steep?

Anonymous said...

Yup, senschirp, Chad Kilger. The Leafs dealt him to Florida at the deadline for a 3rd round pick. He has yet to play a game for Florida and it seems that he never will.

The Source said...

Um ok I'm really not a Peca fan he is a great faceoff guy but really hasn't brought much to the table over his career.

And I know I said it would be steep but I thought about it and really it wouldn't be unless Bouwmeester walks.

despite bouwmeester being an undeachiever thus far, he has tons of trade value and there is no way the leafs get him with that kind of package. the panthers were suppose to be looking at mccabe as a mentor to bouwmeester so moving him in a mccabe deal makes absolutely no sense. if he moves bouwmeester at all, look for martin to move him to a western conference team, like he did with jokinen.

I agree that this package isn't strong enough. Jay Bow is a highly regarded asset to any team in the league and if I were Martin, I'd hold off until the trade deadline and get max return, not to mention buying time to convince him to stay. With Jokinen gone, jBow is there golden boy right now and I think it would be a mistake to trade him now. Not only does it hurt the team, the fans will have completely lost faith.

And on a side note, I really, really hope Cliff Fletcher doesn't move that 1st round pick to anyone!

reporting retarded rumors that make no sense??

THEY arent giving up Zednik and Bouwmeester their 2 best players for 3 salary dumps from us...

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

I mean before you post, take a little thing called common sense think it over and then say "Oh wait this will never ever ever happen."

I have a saying in this world, common sense isn't so common anymore.

To say "Bouwmeester has absolutely no trade value right now as he wants out of Florida." is the dumbest thing I've heard on this site.

Anonymous said...

hahahahahaha. you're all over the place. one second you're saying that it's too steep. the next second you're trying to defend yourself by saying you don't think it's enough? which is it??? come on... out with it... which is it? you obviously made this up... just another leaf dreamer who thinks we can trade our three worst players for another teams best player.

you're crazy.

"Bouwmeester has absolutely no trade value right now as he wants out of Florida."

You understand what creates value? The demand for something.

Whether he wants out of FLA or not, it is more dependent on how many teams are interested in trading for him. And if you believe it's only one team (leafs), you are sorely mistaken.

J-Bo is only 24 years old. 24! There is no chance in hell the leafs land him for a salary dump(McSuck), one of the worst d men I have ever seen play(White) and a career 2nd/3rd liner(Poni).

Maybe if FLA sends back Belak and Kilger as well, it may happen...
