LEAFS,PANTHERS HAVE A DEAL IN PRINCIPLE

According to sportsnet the Leafs and Panthers have a deal reached in principle. The deal will be waited on till September 1stwhen Mccabe accepts his 2 million dollar paycheck owed to him by the leafs. Then the deal will just need to be accepted by the league and its done. IT SOUNDS LIKE JUST VAN RYN TO LEAFS.

From Boumeester to Van Ryn. Crappy. Can anybody give me a scouting report on Van Ryn? at 3.2 mil a year, I'd expect him to be decent.

Here DC this is from Sportsnet

Van Ryn is 29

Assets:
Moves the puck well up the ice, has a good point shot and is always willing to dish out punishment.

Flaws:
Needs to become more assertive on offense, since he has the talent to produce big numbers.

Career potential:
Top four defenseman.

Seems kinda like McCabe, in a bottle. Hopefully they just give him a smaller role, and he can keep his head in check a little better than McCabe.

Just Van Ryn for McCabe, no pick or prospect, not happy.

TSN is saying it's McCabe and another player for someone from Florida. Here's hoping it's McCabe and Ponikarovsky for Weiss.

Read Alec Brownscombe's assessment on HockeyBuzz. AB is a great blogger with a good assessment.

I have no problem with Mike Van Ryn I do have a problem with toronto adding another defensmen and not adding any offense. This deal makes no sense and in reality leaves the Leafs a worse team for the now, mabye better for the future.

Well, all the moves Fletcher has made is for the future. I have no problem with that. In addition, he shave 1 contract year and about 7 million over 2 years in cap space. Save 1 million this year, 2.5 million next year, and 5.75 million the year after that in cap space. This move is all about cap space and changing the teams perspective. One more change to make - Sundin.

Taking anyone back for McCabe with a smaller cap hit and at least can play in the NHL is a win for TO.

You are moving 5,750,000 cap space for each of the next 3 years for a guy you don't really want anymore. Just be happy he's waving his no movement clause and wait for the rebuild.

I have no problem moving Mccabe moving Mccabe for a defensemen makes no sense whatsoever. We will have
Kaberle Kubina
Finger Cola
Stralman Frogren
Van Ryan White
Kronwall
all signed to one way contracts, not to mention we are in desperate need for someone to actually score goals.

kaberle - kubina
finger - van ryn
stralman - frogren
kronwall - white

colaiacovo ??

in the skeme of things, only

kaberle/kubina/finger/van ryn/stralman/frogren are priorities to keep

and its okay it these guys may be traded or put on waivers / waived

kronwall
white
maybe colaiacovo, maybe (maybe?)?

Waive Cola and White who are both young very capable defensemen. Glad your not the GM. If anything Kubina should be moved right now , and get back some form of offense in this train wreck of a team.

heard Dreger on 640 on my way home saying that the hold up in the deal may be more due to the Leafs trying to get Bouwmeester included in the deal. That the 2 M bonus can be paid anytime, but no later than the 1st. So Toronto could pay it now if they wanted to and complete the deal, but they are probably still working Martin for more.

I'm sure that Fletcher wants one of JayBo, Wiess or obviously not going to happen Horton. CLiff will push hard to land a big name and according to Dregger Bouwmeester is not happy right now in Florida. So time will tell.

Great we are going to land another Coliacovo , all the fans on the Florida Panthers website are saying he's injured all the time. This trade is horrible for the Leafs. HORRIBLE
