NYI trade 7th pick to Nashville
so far, no splash from Murray
Toronto made an interesting deal and what a player they got with Schenn.
We're off to the 7th selection. I'll post more in a bit.
Umberger to Jackets
Hey guys yes this is true I actually found a trade rumor that ended up coming to life. Umberger should help the Jackets with his gritty play and tremendous size. This was the Deal:
To Flyers:19th Overall Pick,3rd round pick
To Jackets:R.J. Umberger.
My Take:Do I think the Jackets gave up to much, I have to say yes but for the Flyers this is a great deal, they needed cap space so they can sign Carter without going over the cap.
Leafs trade up for Luke Schenn
Jokinen Is Headed To The Desert
The Phoenix coyotes have acquired Star Forward Olli Jokinen from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Keith Ballard,Nick Boynton and a second round pick(49th overall).
My Take:Phoenix wins trade by a LONG shot. But with the acquiring of 2 d-men my guess is Florida is not done and they are going to trade Jay Bouwmeester.
3-way Deal Including Cammalleri Finalized!
The Flames have acquired forward Mike Cammalleri from the Los Angeles Kings as part of a three way trade.
Calgary sends their first round selection (17th overall) to the Kings who then ship that pick and the 28th overall selection to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for the Ducks' 12th overall draft pick.
The Flames are also on the verge of sending forward Alex Tanguay to the Montreal Canadiens for 25th overall pick. The deal has yet to be finalized however as the trade call must still go through.Habs+Flames=Trade(DONE DEAL)
TSN reports a deal between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames that would send Forward Alex Tanguay to the Montreal Canadiens and the Habs 25th overall pick heading the other was just been Finalized and is a DONE DEAL!
here the official deal:
To Montreal:Alex Tanguay,5th rounder(138th overall)
To Calgary:25th Overall Pick this year,2nd rounder next year
MY TAKE: As A Die hard Canadiens fan I believe the habs win this deal BIG TIME.
Canadiens Trade 1st Round Pick(EDIT)
According to CKAC Montreal radio Station The Montreal Canadiens have traded there 1st round draft pick in this years draft(25th overall)for someone or something not revealed yet.
edit:Deal called off, deal Was supposed to be for rights to Sundin, gainey talked to Sundin and Sundin stated that he still was not sure if he would play this coming year.
Rangers Letting UFA's Walk???
Habs Given Permission To Talk With Sundin
Sources tell TSN that The Montreal Canadiens have been given permission to speak with Mats Sundin's Agent! There have been many rumors flying around that the habs were very interested in him and I think that this confirms that. Apparently the Habs were close to a deal with the Leafs at the trade deadline for Sundin, But he refused to waive his No-Trade Clause.
Florida Panthers Draft Day!
PANTHERSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will he stay or will he go?
Sedins?
Tanguay?
Picks?
who knows?
MIAMI HERALD/SOUTH FLORIDA SUN-SENTINEL: both reports Panthers GM Jacques Martin could be shopping Olli Jokinen for players and a first round draft pick. The Panthers dealt away their first round pick in this year’s draft in acquiring Tomas Vokoun from the Predators last June. Rumors persist Jokinen might be dealt in the hours leading up to the first round.SPECTOR’S NOTE: Teams are interested in Jokinen but the asking price is said to be expensive and that could kill off that interest or at least limit the number of teams willing to deal for him.
Today is def the day Jokinen is gone. It's sad but lets hope we get something good in return for once.BTW, the big rumor is Jokinen to the Flames for their 1st (17th overall) and Tanguay. To be honest, that might be a worse trade than the Luongo trade. Tang is a UFA after next year so probably he would be here for only one year and bounce.
Emery Bought Out,Cloutier Also Put On Waivers.
More Info is Available at this link:http://nhldraftcentral.hockeybums.i8.com
Ottawa Senators have waived goaltender Ray Emery. The waiving of Mr.Emery is one of the steps mad ebefore a team can start the buyout process. If Emery is picked up on waivers the sens have got nothing to do with him, if he does not get picked up then the sens may proceed to buy him out.Almost all hockey fans had to know this was coming, when was the question.
My Take: The sens were intending to Buy out Emery and then tried to deal him in a trade but there were obviously no takers. Now that they waived him I think a Sens deal is coming in the near future.
note: Another goaltender Dan Cloutier has also been put on waivers by the L.A. Kings who intend to buy him out, the same thing Ottawa is doing with Emery.
Preds acquire a fifth-round pick in 2009 Entry Draft for Darcy Hordichuk
As per NHL.com
Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired a fifth-round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from Carolina for forward Darcy Hordichuk. If Hordichuk, an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2008, does not sign with the Hurricanes, they will receive Nashville’s fifth round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft.
The Predators have eight selections in tomorrow and Saturday’s 2008 NHL Entry Draft, including four in the first 46 selections (No. 9, 15, 40 and 46). Nashville’s other picks are: No. 76 (third round), No. 106 (fourth round), No. 136 (fifth round) and No. 166 (sixth round). With the acquisition of the pick for Hordichuk, the Predators also hold eight picks in next summer’s draft as well.
Hordichuk, 27 (8/10/80), appeared in 172 games for the Predators from 2005-08, posting 20 points (9g-11a) and 313 penalty minutes. Acquired by the Predators from Florida for a fourth-round pick in the 2005 Entry Draft, Hordichuk notched three points (1g-2a) and 60 penalty minutes in 45 contests in 2007-08, in addition to appearing in five postseason games. The Kamsack, Sask., native posted career highs in goals (7), assists (6), points (13) and penalty minutes (163) in 2005-06, his first campaign with Nashville.
Mason to St.Louis for 4th Rounder
St. Louis Blues have acquired goaltender Chris Mason from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 4th round draft choice, 111th overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft. Mason, 32, played in a career high 51 games for the Predators last season, collecting a 2.90 goals against average and a .898 save percentage.
Malkin To Russia? If He Wants Big Money Then YES!
According to the Toronto Star A team in the Russian Continental League which is the Super League renamed this year. A team in the League is prepared to offer Evgeni Malkin 12.5 million russian which is the equivalent of a 15 million dollar contract in the National Hockey League. This is coming just a day after rumors were flying about Malkin being traded.
My Take: Makin will finish his rookie contract with the Penguins and will leave for Russia at the end of next year. But my question is are the Russian teams still bitter about Malkin running off to the NHL? From the sounds of this potential contract offer NOT AT ALL.
Dan Ellis Resigned By Preds
Dan Ellis has been Re-signed by the Nashville Predators Terms have not been released yet.
this deal comes about 30 minutes after trading away there other goalie, Chris Mason to the St.Louis Blues.
Per Andy Strickland of ESPN 1380
My Take:Great job by the Preds locking up a goalie who will be a key contributer to there success this season and the seasons to come. Ellis should be a good teacher to up and coming goalie Pekka Rinne.
DRAFT DAY TODAY!!!DRAFT CENTRAL IS YOUR PLACE!

I would also just like to add a couple things if you missed them:
Thrashers hire John Anderson As Head Coach
Maple Leafs Acquire Jamal Mayers from the Blues in exchange for a 3rd round pick.
Draft Day has finally arrived...
Good morning all in Sens Land!
Well, one of, if not THE, deepest and richest drafts has finally arrived right in the Sens backyard. All eyes will be on Ottawa this evening for the 1st and 2nd rounds of this years 2008 NHL Entry Draft. From a Sens fan POV, this could be a rather interesting time.
As I'm sure a lot of you know, all the teams that hold the first 6 slots in the 1st round have been approached by various teams' GM's hoping to snag that all-inportant first pick, but so far no deals have been made. Speculation is running rampant on the possibility of a flurry of deals going down within the next few hours and all along this draft weekend. Which brings me to my next point.
A quick google search or perhaps a little bit of surfing through some of the plethora of hockey sites are providing A LOT of chatter. I've seen my fair share of trade proposals from the improbable to the incredibly outlandish. One such rumor involves the Senators and the LA Kings. It's purported to be a trade that will send Jason Spezza and our 1st round pick (18th) to LA for a return of Mike Cammeleri and their 1st round pick (2nd). I must say that when I first read this, I had to scratch my head in disbelief. Why sign Spezza to a 7 yr deal only to turn around and trade him while he is still so young and has SO much more to offer?
Since having some time to digest this info, a few things have come to light. First, a friend mentioned to me that it's awfully convenient that a similar trade proposal/rumor surfaced about 48 hours ago with a the same pieces but a different team. Specifically, the rumor was the Penguins were supposedly offering Malkin to the Kings for their 1st round pick; and when that rumor was sloughed off and laughed at, not 24 hours later, a NEW rumor with Spezza comes out. Surely this is a classic case of 'consider the source;' and secondly, Murray has slammed that rumor in this morning's Ottawa Sun claiming that "you media guys make more things up(...)".
Needless to say, this coming draft weekend will surely be anything but boring and the hometown fans may or may not have anything to cheer about. Only time will tell. As one of my friends said, he can't wait to hear the loud boo's and heckling of Bettman once he takes the stage! HA!
In closing, to all Sens fans out there, do you suppose there is a chance, albeit slim, that Murray can not only trade the anchor known as Emery this weekend, but also manage to move up a spot or 10 in this draft? Are these Spezza rumors baseless? Let's hear your thoughts...
Oh, and one final thing: I consulted a friend of mine late last night as I goaded him for info or any juicy tidbits, and all he responded was this, and I quote: "Most Sens fans know what Murray is like. Anyone who has followed Murray's coaching career and his stints as GM know his MO and his style. He not only plays his cards extremely close to him, but he's also notorious for putting out false leads, and leaking misleading, if not untrue, info simply to throw off the opposition and media. So, every time Murray denies something, keep this in mind. He is a very shrewd and sneaky man, and we should ALL feel lucky he is in the Sens corner."
Leafs acquire Mayers for 3rd rounder
Here is Mayers player profile:
This is a good acquisition for the leafs Mayers is a hard working player that is a home town boy. The fans should grow to take a liking to him and his style of play.
Could this be Tuckers replacement?
