The Nightly Wrap-Up

In the news...

  • TSN talked to JP Barry today about Mats Sundin's decision status at this point. Barry, Sundin's agent, told the Canadian station that Mats "isn't close" towards making a decision, and that his long wait towards a choice of either the NHL or retirement (which according to him, is very likely at this stage) is preventing this situation from getting to a Brett Favre type dramatic scene. Again, six teams are very much in the picture for Sundin's NHL services.

  • As reported by Hockeybum's Ren D a couple of days back, the San Jose Sharks re-signed power forward Ryane Clowe to a one-year, $1.6 million deal today. The restricted free agent will be a vital part toward new coach (and former Red Wing assistant) Todd McLellan's game plan in the upcoming season.

  • Speaking of Red Wings and their assistant coaches, the Cup Champs have found McLennan's replacement behind the bench, retrieving Brad McCrimmon to tackle those duties for the '08-'09 season. The 18-year playing veteran has been apart of the Atlanta, Calgary and New York Islanders staff in coaching related duites as well.

  • Speaking of Western Conference teams and their assistant coache, Terry Murray found former Los Angeles King Mark Hardy to tag along as an assistant coach for the Kings. Jamie Kompon and Nelson Emerson both recieved promotions to also serve as assistants.

And on the rumor side:

  • Milan Hejduk will serve out the remaining two years of his contract with the Colorado Avalanche, and then will call it quits from the NH, according to web reports. The report also states his injury and mobility problems that have and are limiting him to play at any full potential.

That's it for the night. Scotty is supposed to be back on Wednesday, and will be if nothing happens. I'll keep you guys posted.

Blue Jackets Invite Veteran Dman Matvichuk To Tryout

According to The Columbus Dispatch the Blue Jackets have invited veteran defenseman Richard Matvichuk to a non-roster tryout with the team.

In 42 GP with the Lowell Devils Matvichuk had 1 goal 3 assists for 4 points and was a -20 with 40 pims.

(Sources Take:This is not the next coming of Adam Foote for the Blue Jackets and they should honestly stay away from this guy. I don't see him making the team at 35 as the Bluejackets are in that whole youth movement phase right now. This guy couldn't make the cut with Devils last year he definitely won't in Columbus. Look for him to play in Europe if he doesn't make the Bluejackets.)

About The Source

I figure I would do one of these to prove that I am nothing like Eklund

Unlike Eklund my last name is part of my profile and the 1st initial is there to.

Plus I also put things on the bottom such as I am not confirming this but I have heard this. I also mention players and there possible destinations. Not "This team in the East is close to trading a NMC player for a player that used to play for a West Team. More To Come"

Plus if a trade doesn't go through I will come on here and retract and then post why it didn't or admit my source was a complete BOOB!! LOL

Anyways trust me I'm nothing like Eklund I don't mind being wrong.
Plus my whole career won't be shot to hell if I am wrong.

I've been wrong before and it won't be the last time. But my track record is quite good since joining this site I called the Leclaire signing about a week and a half before it happened the only thing my team source got wrong was the $$$$$ I said $14,000,000 Leclaire got $11,400,000.

So once again I am not afraid of being wrong and if I am I will admit it.

Mike Johnson and Geoff Platt heading to Europe

Johnson played for the Blues last season, recording 5 points in 21 games. Johnson, 33, also played for Montreal, Pheonix, Tampa Bay and Toronto during his career. He signed a contract to play the 2008-09 season in the DEL.

Platt played 5 games for the Ducks last season, notching 0 points. He played mostly in the AHL with Portland and Syracuse. Platt, 23, signed a contract with Ilves of the SM-Liiga in Finland.

Jokinnen a Leaf?

There were unconfirmed reports tonight that the Leafs have agreed to a deal in principle with the Lightning on aquiring Jussi Jokinnen.

Talking to a few sources and they have confirmed that while some sort of deal is imminent there is no word on who the players are at this time. Its been rumored that McCabe was the Lightnings target for a while and not Kubina.

The Leafs have been after Jokinnen since his days in Dallas and if true he would be a great asset to the Leafs when it comes to the shootout. I will keep everyone up to date and give more info as it comes in.

As I said this is a unconfirmed trade and by "NO" means does that mean its been completed!!

Rick DiPietro's Knee Brace is Gone . . . For Now

According to the New York Newsday, Rick DiPietro has gotten rid of the knee brace he was wearing after having minor knee surgery in June. This is likely a sign that his rehabilitation is progressing well, and he will probably be good to go when the season starts. A healthy DiPietro is critical to Islanders' success, if they are to have any, this season. Considering how little New York improved compared to the rest of the Atlantic Division, Ricky D will have to be at his best almost every night to give the Isles a chance to win. Even if that happens, I still forecast a second consecutive last-place finish for the Islanders.
